what will i learn in 8 weeks?

Our 8-week classes offer more time to build your skills and explore a wider range of pottery techniques, including wheel throwing and hand building. Classes are available at two levels: Beginner and All Levels.

  • Beginner is designed for students with little to no pottery experience. Over eight weeks, students will build a strong foundation in both wheel throwing and hand building while learning the full pottery process, including wedging, centering, pulling walls, shaping forms, trimming, handles, surface design, and glazing.

  • All Levels is open to everyone, including beginners. Beginners will receive guidance on the fundamentals of wheel throwing and hand building, while returning students can continue developing their skills and explore more advanced forms, techniques, and projects. Instruction is tailored to each student’s experience level and goals.

How Does the Class Work?

  • Each class meets once a week for 2.5 hours, including cleanup time.

  • This is a general course outline. The schedule may vary slightly depending on the instructor and the pace of the class.

Week Focus
Week 1 Wedging, Centering & Pulling
Week 2 Wheel throwing practicing
Week 3 Trimming & Handles, Surface Design
Week 4 Hand building
Week 5 Making lidded forms
Week 6 Advanced wheel throwing
Week 7 Finishing for bisque firing
Week 8 Glazing

What's Included?

  • We provide all the materials you'll need, including clay, tools, glazes, and firing—just bring yourself!

If you already have your own pottery tools, you're welcome to bring and use them.

  • We do provide aprons, but pottery can still get a little messy, so we recommend wearing comfortable clothes that you don't mind getting dirty.

  • At the end of the course, you'll be able to glaze and keep up to six finished pieces to take home after firing.
